Frequently Asked Questions

We’ve put together a list of common questions to help take some of the guess work out of planning your trip. If you don’t see it here… don’t hesitate to call us for more information.
Do I need a Fishing License?
Yes, most of the time. Please take time to review the license requirements over at Texas Parks and Wildlife You can purchase your license online or we have plenty of resources available to buy it right here in the South Padre Island and Port Isabel area.
Do I need to bring any equipment?
I’ve got everything covered. Rods, reels, lures… But, you’re welcome to bring along your favorite gear if you should so choose.
What do I need to wear?

Here are some of my best recommendations for what to wear (or bring with you):

  • Sun Block
  • Hat
  • Long Sleeve Shirt
  • Sun Glasses (polarized work best)
Do I need an Ice Chest?
Nope. Got that covered too along with lots of ice. But be sure to bring your own snacks and drinks. Beer is Ok.
What kind of fish can we expect to catch?
There are way too many varities around here for me to list them all, but some of the most common that we’ll see are Speckled Trout, Red Fish, Flounder, Snook, Black Drum and Mangrove Snapper.
What kind of bait will we use?
Bait selection really depends on what kind of fishing you want to do, and what’s happening at the time. Typically we’ll use both artificial lures (top water, jigs, etc) but we can also use live bait (mostly live shrimp and mullet). Again, your choice of bait depends entirely upon how you want to fish and what’s biting at the time.
